Personal Profile

 Professor Sheen was born in London & qualified from Dundee University in 1993 after which he pursued a career in general surgery with training in London Manchester Leeds and Sweden, after which he was appointed Consultant in 2005. He has expertise in HPB (Liver, Pancreas Gallbladder) surgery.

In the NHS he is also recognised as one of the UK's leading hernia specialist for which he has been appointed President of the British Hernia Society in 2020.

Professor Sheen has developed his own techniques for minimally invasive surgery for liver tumours as well as the Manchester Groin and incisional hernia repairs. He undertakes research in both the field of Cancer & Hernia and published the world’s first consensus statement for groin pain in elite athletes commonly known as sportsman's hernia, as well as undertaking the 1st ever randomised control trial for this condition. For his research achievements he was appointed Hon. Professor of Surgery in 2016.

In July 2021, Prof Sheen was made MAHSC Honorary Clinical Chair 2021 from Health Innovation Manchester. MAHSC, part of Health Innovation Manchester, awards the honorary appointments to individuals who have made a major contribution to their clinical speciality, including excellence in research and education.
