The Prostate Cancer Charity was set up in 1996 in response to the urgent need to increase investment in prostate cancer research and to raise public and political awareness of a long neglected disease. They are now the UK’s leading voluntary organisation working with people affected by prostate cancer.
In March 2009 BMI hospitals nationwide supported The Prostate Cancer Charity’s first ever awareness month. According to the charity, although approximately 100 men per day are informed that they have prostate cancer , over 70% of adults in the UK do not know what the prostate does or the common symptoms and treatment of prostate cancer. This is why throughout the month BMI hospitals raised awareness for the charity by displaying educational materials.
