Mr Aadil Mumith Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Personal Profile

Mr Mumith is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a subspecialty interest in knee joint preservation, sports injury reconstruction and joint replacement surgery. His fundamental aim is to give his patients the finest possible evidence-based surgical care and enable them to return to optimal function.

He believes in saving the patients’ natural joint and provides the full spectrum of surgical services to achieve this. He is an expert in and offers surgery for knee cartilage, meniscus and ligament damage as well as issues with kneecap instability. When treating more complicated lower limb issues or young adults with arthritis, realignment (osteotomy) surgery is offered to correct deformities or postpone the need for joint replacement. For those with established arthritis, he provides the full complement of joint replacement surgery when appropriate. He has expertise managing elite athletes, weekend-warriors as well as those who lead a more sedentary lifestyle.

Upon graduating from University College London Medical School in 2008, he completed his postgraduate training in London and Hampshire. During this time, he undertook a sabbatical to complete a period of research at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. He was the recipient of a highly coveted Royal College of Surgeons of England Research Fellowship and was awarded competitive grants from the Enid Linder & Arthritis Trust, Orthopaedic Research UK and Skeletal Cancer Action Trust for his work. This culminated in a Biomedical Engineering PhD and being presented with Nature Publishing Trainee Award.

After completing his specialist training in the UK, he subsequently was named as a Lower Extremity Reconstruction Fellow under the Schatzker Joint Preservation Initiative at the University of Toronto. He was based in one of the highest volume units in North America. During this time, he was the recipient of the Visiting Professors Prize, Sunnybrook Fellows Research Symposia Prize and was nominated as the Orthopaedic Division Representative for the Zane Cohen Fellowship Award. Following this, he completed a second fellowship in arthroscopic (key-hole) and reconstructive surgery at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, a centre of excellence for orthopaedic surgery in Europe. His lauded pioneering work in the areas of limb re-alignment and 3D-printed implant technology has received international recognition. He continues his research pursuits with a network of surgeons and scientists globally after being appointed as an Honorary Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida. He continues to publish in his area of expertise, serves as the editor of numerous texts, is the principal investigator for multiple multicentre studies and consults for the med-tech sector.

He began his consultant career in the Arthroscopy & Large Joint Reconstruction Division at the prestigious Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. He transitioned to his current position, where he spent time as a trainee, and takes delight in offering his patients a full range of surgical services. He is one of a select group of surgeons who work in the renowned Knee Osteotomy Unit at Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital, where he treats patients from across the nation as well as training other surgeons.

By combining his academic background with technical expertise acquired at world-renowned centres, Mr Mumith employs state of the art surgical techniques and innovations to deliver the highest standard of care to his patients.
