Dr Ismail has been a Consultant Rheumatologist at Stockport NHS Trust since the year 2000. Dr Ismail is a very well respected Rheumatologist with considerable experience treating a wide range of rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, lupus, fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue syndrome and gout. Dr Ismail looks after around 2000 patients per year with a variety of musculoskeletal complaints.
Dr Ismail also has a specialist interest in osteoporosis and other metabolic bone related disorders. He gained a prestigious Wellcome Trust fellowship to undertake research in a large European study of osteoporosis in both men and women. This resulted in numerous scientific articles being published and presentations of his research globally at scientific meetings. It also resulted in him being awarded an MD thesis from the University of Manchester.
Dr Ismail established the Osteoporosis Service in Stockport in 2004 and more recently a Fracture Prevention Nurse Led Service. He is the current Director of the Osteoporosis Service in Stockport. Dr Ismail currently receives osteoporosis referrals both locally and regionally, often from GPs, orthopaedic surgeons and other Rheumatologists wanting further help with management of their patients.
Dr Ismail has an approachable manner, makes patients feel relaxed during consultations and has very good communication skills. He has an excellent secretary Beverley Burnett who answers queries promptly.
Dr Ismail has two daughters and his hobbies include sailing, skiing and during the summer months enjoys riding his Honda Goldwing 1800 motorcycle.
