Dr Ajay Mehta is a consultant in clinical oncology, specialising in the treatment of lung, oesophagus and stomach cancers. His NHS base is at the Royal Surrey County Hospital.
Training and Appointment
Dr Ajay Mehta qualified from Guy's Hospital Medical School in 1992. He trained in Oncology at central London hospitals including St Bartholomew’s, Hammersmith, Mount Vernon and the Royal Marsden Hospitals. He was appointed as a Consultant in Clinical Oncology in 2004 and currently practises at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford where he is also the Lead Clinician for Radiotherapy. He has a BSc in pathology and a diploma in medical ethics.Dr Mehta offers comprehensive management of lung and upper GI cancers (specifically of the oesophagus and stomach). This involves systemic therapies such as immunotherapy, targeted therapy and chemotherapy. Dr Mehta’s expertise is in immunotherapy, targeted therapies and combination chemotherapy. He is also proficient in advanced radiotherapy techniques including stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) which is a highly focussed 5-day radiation treatment for prostate cancer patients; intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), an advanced type of radiation therapy used to treat cancer and non-cancerous tumours, and image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), another method of radiation therapy that incorporates imaging techniques during each session, thereby improving the precision and accuracy of treatment delivery.
