Personal Profile

Knee surgery

I have a broad experience of knee arthroplasty and soft tissue knee surgery. My training was in the London and South-East as well as a Fellowship in Sydney, Australia. I have developed interests in joint replacement, sports injuries, ligament reconstruction, including multiple ligament reconstruction – our data has been presented recently.  In addition, I perform a large number of osteotomies around the knee. I enjoy the ‘challenging’ primary knee and two of us at Frimley do the mainstay of the revision knee work.

I have performed over 500 ACL reconstructions over the last 10 years.

I am keen to ensure that patients are fully informed and understand all the treatment options as we decide on the best solution for each patient.

Hip surgery

Primary and revision hip surgery were well covered during my training. I gained experience of many different hip replacement options as well as revision surgery.

London Olympic games 2012

I was selected as a Sports Doctor at the London Olympics. I was a Doctor to the sailors and windsurfers at Weymouth during the Games in July 2012 and I was a Doctor for the hockey at the trial Games in the Olympic Park in May 2012. It was fascinating seeing how an Olympics ’works’, being part of an inspirational group of people put together for the Games and working with hugely talented athletes.

Management

Throughout my consultant career I have been involved in management and have been involved in several large projects.

I was appointed Clinical Director to the Orthopaedic Department at Frimley Park Hospital in 2012.

The following year I was involved as CD in the CQC inspection where Frimley Park was the first Trust in the country to obtain “Excellent’.

In 2015 I was part of the team that was involved with the takeover of a neighbouring Hospital Trust and helped to turn the Trust around from ‘inadequate’ and under special measures to ‘Good’ in their latest inspection.

I have subsequently been appointed as the Lead Clinician on the £100 million state-of-the-art’ new Heatherwood Hospital.  The hospital will be a 6-theatre elective facility, principally orthopaedics with outpatients and diagnostics.  I have been involved from the start of the project, including canvassing local support, going through planning, appointing architects, contractors and now working as part of the team to ensure the building is ready for opening in December 2021.  The project is currently on time and on budget.
