Personal Profile

Originally from Carlisle, Mr Pieri attended Newcastle University medical school, qualifying as a doctor in 2007 having also been awarded a distinction in a Masters degree in Research. He completed both basic and advanced surgical training in hospitals across the North East of England and spent some time on a clinical fellowship in Sydney, Australia.

As a senior trainee, he worked under the tutelage of the leading plastic surgeons and breast cancer surgeons at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne. Following this period, he was appointed to join them as a consultant colleague at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, a large breast cancer and onco plastic surgical treatment centre in Newcastle.

Mr Pieri is passionate about research, innovation and service improvement, with multiple research publications and a patent, mainly centred around intra-operative medical devices. He has been the Chief Investigator for a number of randomised control trials. These have included investigating a device to improve healing after breast reduction surgery and researching ways to streamline breast cancer patients' treatment pathways.

Renowned for innovation, he is regularly invited to provide expert opinions for a number of companies in medical industry, on international scientific breast and plastic surgery advisory boards for technology advances. These have included breast implant modifications for reconstruction and cosmetic breast augmentation, as well as advancements in wound management systems with negative pressure dressings.

He is dedicated to medical and surgical education, being the surgical lead for a number of different medical school programmes at Newcastle Hospitals, as well as recently being appointed as director for cadaveric teaching for the prestigious national TIG Oncoplastic Breast Fellowship, helping to train the next generation of general and plastic surgeons in more complex breast oncoplastic techniques.
