Personal Profile
His elective practice is purely upper limb dealing with shoulder, elbow and wrist and hand disorders. He treats patient with shoulder pain arising from frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tendinitis, rotator cuff tear, shoulder instability and shoulder arthritis, and undertakes surgical management of these when appropriate. Professor Jariwala manages patients with tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, and elbow arthritis. He also manages patients with carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, wrist and thumb arthritis, trigger fingers, Dupuytren's disease and de Quervain's disease. In addition, Professor Jariwala reviews and manages patients with on-going issues from fractures of the upper limbs like proximal humerus fractures, clavicle fractures, radial head fractures, elbow fractures and those with complex wrist and forearm injuries. He always provides evidence-based advice and management of conditions.
Professor Jariwala offers his patients a unique surgery for the treatment of AC joint dislocations. The lockdown technique for the Acromio-Clavicular (AC) joint is used for patients who have ongoing and persistent issues with their AC injuries. This can be a common occurrence for patients who have fallen on their shoulder. Patients suffering from these ongoing issues often have complaints regarding persistent pain, weakness, and in general their shoulder just ‘not feeling right.’ The lockdown technique for AC joint dislocations is one of the most commonly used techniques when aiming to once more stabilise the joint and enable a return to daily activities relatively quickly. The surgery can often be undertaken as a day case surgery, with patients required to wear a sling for around 2-3 weeks post-operatively, before being able to return to light duties and activities in 4-6 weeks.
With his strong academic background, numerous (more than 40) peer reviewed publications, being involved in multiple research projects and for teaching, training and supervision for both under and post graduate students and trainees, he has been recently appointed as Honorary Professor at the University of Dundee.
