Personal Profile

Aseel Hamoud Bedan is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

She works at Hendon Hospital.

Upon moving to the UK and furthering her learning in the medical profession, Ms Hamoud received a two-year fellowship in medical retina and research from Western Eye Hospital in 2017. She gained her degree as a Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow in 2011, she was trained in the Republic of Ireland and obtained her degree as Member of Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland MRCSI in 2014, European Board of Ophthalmology EBO in 2013, International Council of Ophthalmology ICO in 2009. Back in Iraq she was qualified as a consultant ophthalmologist with a degree from Council of Arab Board of Ophthalmology CAB ophth. in 2004. She had her primary medical qualification MBChB from the University of Baghdad in 1993.

Upon her career, she worked in Western Eye Hospital (Imperial College Hospital), Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in Kent, Royal Victoria Eye & Ear Hospital in Dublin, Cork University Hospital, and University Hospital Limerick.


Clinical Interests

  • Her special interests include routine/ complex cataract surgery
  • Medical retina diseases including age-related macular degeneration with OCT, FFA, ICG, intravitreal injection therapy with Anti-VEGF and Dexamethasone
  • Diabetic eye disease including Argon & Micro-pulse laser treatment, anti-VEGF & steroid injection with elyea, lucentis, ozurdex and iluvien
  • Retinal vein occlusion management with intravitreal injections and laser
  • Central serous retinopathy treatment
  • General ophthalmology
