Professional Profile

Mr Bachar Zelhof is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, working at Manchester Royal Infirmary and Wythenshawe Hospital.
His specialist urological training in the Northwest Deanery was completed in 2014 leading to the accreditation of CCT certificate. He then gained further specialist experience in kidney stones and robotic surgery at centres in Amsterdam, Strasbourg and Wurzburg to become one of the highest volume surgeon for robotic kidney surgery in the Northwest. He is actively involved in mentoring consultants and trainees in robotic partial nephrectomy.
Mr Zelhof is actively involved in the endometriosis multi-disciplinary team at St Mary’s Hospital in Manchester providing minimally invasive surgery for complex endometriosis involving the bladder or ureters.
Bachar is an active researcher with over 30 publications, two book chapters, and numerous presentations at international and national conferences. He has completed his research doctorate (MD with honours) at the University of Hull after an intensive study of prostate cancer multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging. He focuses on optimizing patients’ diagnostic and treatment pathways with the aim of enhancing surgical outcomes.
He is a senior honorary lecturer at the University of Manchester, having led the undergraduate teaching in surgery for 7 years. Furthermore, he leads the kidney cancer module for Northwest Urology MSc degree. He is a qualified educational supervisor having completed Post Graduate Medical Education training in 2014, and proud to be recognised as the Northwest best trainer of the year for Urology in 2021.

Mr Zelhof practices all components of general urology including:

  • Management of prostatic disease
  • Recurrent urinary tract infections
  • Overactive bladder
  • Blood in urine
  • Scrotal surgery. 

He has a sub-specialist interest in robotic and laparoscopic kidney and ureteric surgeries including partial or total nephrectomy for kidney cancer or benign disease, pelvi-ureteric obstruction, ureteric re-implantation and urological problems related to endometriosis.
