He is the Clinical and Strategic Lead for Rheumatology services in the region (covering Lincoln, Grantham, Boston and Spalding). Dr Chikura did his specialist training in Liverpool and Manchester and is a holder of a Master’s Degree in Clinical Rheumatology (2007) from the University of Manchester. He was involved in research and has publications in Raynaud’s and lung diseases in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, among other publications. He is passionate about service developments, clinical governance and the provision of high standards of care to Rheumatology patients in Lincolnshire. He is the leader of the Rheumatology clinical governance framework for the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
Dr Chikura has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with various forms of arthritis including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, gout and osteoarthritis. He also has extensive experience in vasculitis, ankylosing spondylitis, fibromyalgia and chronic pain, osteoporosis, joint hypermobility/Ehlers-Danlos/EDS, Sjogren’s, polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) and temporal arteritis. He also regularly performs joint injections and soft tissue injections for pain.
He is involved in the teaching and training of medical students from the University of Nottingham Medical School and is hoping to soon be involved in teaching and training medical students from the newly established University of Lincoln Medical School. He is a supervisor for specialty (junior) doctors in the NHS.
He keeps up to date with the yearly appraisal process and has undergone revalidation as required by the GMC.
