Personal Profile
Dr Barber was born and raised in Derbyshire, before attending medical school in Nottingham. He completed his respiratory training in Sheffield and Manchester, prior to being appointed as a consultant in Sheffield in 2005.
Research and Publications
Dr Barber has a national profile in occupational and environmental lung disease and is a Medical Adviser to the Health and Safety Executive. He has an established research track record, having published over fifty peer reviewed publications, and is an honorary Reader at Sheffield University.
Teaching and Training
Dr Barber has produced a wide-range of educational material including five book chapters and two e-learning modules; he is the lead author of the European Respiratory Society Monograph on Occupational Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis, and co-organises the British Thoracic Society Short Course in Occupational and Environmental Lung Disease.
Through his Thornbury clinic he offers a sensible and down to earth clinical opinion for patients around the South Yorkshire and Derbyshire area. In addition to managing general respiratory conditions, other common reasons for referral include patients with chronic cough or unexplained symptoms such as breathlessness.
