Mr Makki’s practice covers a full range of arthroscopic (keyhole) and open shoulder and elbow surgery. He also undertakes a broad range of elbow, wrist and hand procedures
Mr Makki has a special expertise in reconstructive surgery for rotator cuff irreparable tears. He regularly performs one of the latest arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder called “the superior capsular reconstruction” whereby a piece of human tissue called Dermal allograft is used to replace the irreparable rotator cuff tendon. He has improved the technique of this procedure and presented his work at the international level and published it.
Mr Makki qualified from the Lebanese university medical school in 2001 with a gold medal in graduation thesis for MD degree. He completed his basic surgical training in the East of England Deanery and underwent later a specialist training on the Mersey Deanery rotation. He undertook his specialist training in upper surgery at the internationally renowned Wrightington hospital and subsequently pursued a one-year advanced training fellowship in shoulder surgery in Manchester.
In addition to his surgical qualifications, Mr Makki has a BSc in biology and a Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine (UK). He has a keen interest in research and has published several articles (35 studies so far) in scientific journals. More recently, he has published a chapter on shoulder arthroplasty in a major shoulder textbook and previously, a chapter in the prestigious Oxford textbook. He presented research at national and international scientific meetings and was a faculty member on the Wrightington basic science course for higher surgical trainees.
He is currently the Lead of “Enhanced Recovery Program” at St Albans City Hospital (West Hertfordshire NHS Trust) which helps a speedy recovery from upper limb surgery and the lead of junior doctors.
