Personal profile

Mr Duffy is a specialist knee surgeon with particular expertise in sports injuries and knee replacement surgery. He has extensive experience in performing ACL reconstruction, arthroscopic surgery and knee replacements. Mr Duffy performs Robotic-assisted (ROSA) Knee Replacement.

He studied Medicine at Newcastle University. After graduation, he spent a number of years working in Australia before returning to the UK to undertake specialist orthopaedic training in Yorkshire. His expertise in knee surgery was gained from renowned UK fellowship posts in Leeds and Harrogate before he returned to Australia to work with leading knee surgeons, Dr Peter Myers and Dr Peter McMeniman, where he gained experience in treating elite sports men and women.

On returning to the UK, he worked as a Consultant at Wrightington Hospital Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence, before moving to Harrogate in 2010.

His busy NHS practice is based at Harrogate and District Foundation Trust where he treats general orthopaedic trauma and has an elective practice that is tailored to knee complaints.

His approach is directed at identifying the underlying cause to any knee pathology. This enables a treatment plan to address all aspects of knee function in order to optimise the results of treatment. The support of specialist physiotherapists, plus swift and high quality investigations help to achieve this goal.

At the heart of Mr Duffy's practice is a commitment to patient communication and care. Providing a clear and concise explanation of the diagnosis – something that should not be taken for granted - and treatment goal is a fundamental part of patient satisfaction and rehabilitation.

He maintains an active interest in education and is a clinical supervisor for junior doctors in their early foundation years following qualification. He is a regular faculty member who teaches on regional and national courses for training orthopaedic surgeons. Furthermore, he is the author and contributor of a number of surgical articles in national and international journals.
