After completing his General Medical Training in Bristol Royal Infirmary, he moved to London in 1993 and as a registrar trained in Gastroenterology and Hepatology over the next 7 years at St Thomas' Hospital and King's College Hospital. He spent 3 years in research and completed an MD thesis in Gastroenterology from the University of London. He has been a Consultant in his current post since Dec 2002.
David has specialist interest in rectal bleeding, diarrhoea and constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, nutrition, dyspepsia and acid disorders of the stomach. Dr Reffitt has been the Training Programme Director for Gastroenterology registrars in South Thames, Kent, Surrey and Sussex regions since 2009 organising a comprehensive training programme for 75 Gastroenterology registrars.
He has a major interest in leading and developing Gastroenterology Services. He has been the Clinical Director for Gastroenterology at University Hospital Lewisham since 2009 and in June 2013 was appointed Clinical Director of Gastroenterology in the newly combined Lewisham and Greenwich Healthcare Trust.
David is a member of the Regional Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary cancer and benign diseases service at Kings College Hospital where he performs specialist Endoscopic Ultrasound and ERCP.
He maintains a comprehensive gastroenterology practice dealing with a complete range of disease of the upper and lower digestive tract and as a General Physician managing all medical patients.
