She likes to place emphasis on a holistic approach, listening to patients’ concerns and developing specific treatment plans that best suit each individual patient. Her expertise across the medical and surgical retinal fields allow a seamless, combined approach to complex eye problems.
She works as a vitreoretinal and cataract surgeon in the NHS for the Royal Berkshire NHS Trust at clinical sites in Reading and the Prince Charles Eye Unit in Windsor. Her responsibilities include outpatient clinics and operating theatres at the two clinical sites, as well as oversight of ophthalmologists in training and a Specialist Fellow in Vitreoretinal Surgery. The full scope of work includes elective and emergency vitreoretinal surgery. Electively, this covers the surgical treatment of epiretinal membranes, macular holes and other conditions and emergency treatment includes retinal detachments and sub-macular haemorrhage.
She has been engaged with clinical research throughout her career. She completed a clinical research fellowship focusing on retinal genetic disease at the UCL Institutre of Ophthalmology. She is currently involved in several research projects in collaboration with the University of Reading. She has published in peer reviewed journals and presents regularly at national and international professional meetings, as well as participating is regular audit and quality review processes to ensure optimum outcomes for patients.
She is passionate about medical education and holds a number of educational roles. Her role as the College Tutor to specialist ophthalmic trainees in the region, which carries responsibilities for the overall direction of ophthalmic specialist training in the Royal Berkshire Trust as well as pastoral care of ophthalmic trainees. She serves as a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists examination committee, examining for the Part 2 FRCOphth, setting and reviewing examination questions. She has been a member of the RCOphth Clinical Skills Faculty for the past decade, supervising microsurgical skills courses. She also teaches on specialist surgical courses and on the London Eye Course.
She is a member of the Council for the Ophthalmology Section at the Society of Medicine, setting the educational programme for the Section and organising regular clinical educational meetings for medical professionals. She serves as the Gret British Representative on the Medical Committee for FISav, the Federation Internationale de Savate, a kickboxing sport. This includes medical regulatory activities and standard setting for athletes in competition. She also acts as the Ophthalmology Representative on the Medical Committee for UK Motorsport, being involved in medical regulatory activities, visual standards for race license holders and driver certification.
She is committed to promoting the availability of exceptional eye care throughout the world and is a member of The Guru Projects Foundation charity. With the charity, she has travelled to other countries which have a reduced level of ophthalmology provision, to deliver free cataract surgery to populations in need.
She speaks English and Russian fluently and consults face to face as well as via remote video consultation.
