Personal Profile

Mr Fahid Rasul is a consultant neurosurgeon and spinal surgeon. He treats the full range of spinal disorders performing both simple and complex procedures. He has been a pioneer of minimally invasive spinal surgery in his NHS practice at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire introducing new surgical techniques and technologies.

He obtained his MBBS medical degree from the Royal Free and University College Medical School. During this time he also obtained a BSc (Hons) in Neuroscience from UCL. Following his undergraduate training he undertook his neurosurgical residency on the prestigious North and South Thames London rotation obtaining the FRCS (Neuro.Surg). and gaining surgical experience at multiple centres of excellence. Following his neurosurgery residency he completed two internationally renowned complex spine fellowships at the Royal London Hospital and Guys and St. Thomas’ NHS Trust. These fellowships included both orthopaedic and neurosurgical experience ensuring he obtained comprehensive complex spinal surgery training. 

He has a strong academic interest and has published widely in international journals. He was awarded an MPhil at The University of Cambridge in 2017 where he was the top ranked candidate earning funding from the Medical Research Council (MRC). He has presented his research at national and international conferences winning multiple prizes for his work. In addition, he has a keen interest in the education and training of medical students and neurosurgical/spinal trainees. He has held the position of education lead during his tenure on the British Association of Spinal Surgeons (BASS) trainee committee. He also organises lectures with international leaders in spine surgery through his global professional network.

Mr Rasul is an award-winning surgeon. In 2020 he was one of only two neurosurgeons in the U.K. to be awarded the BASS travelling fellowship. He also won an AO Spine fellowship to travel abroad to further develop his spinal surgery skills. He continues to expand and broaden his knowledge and skills through visitations to international centres of excellence.

 

Outside his professional practice Mr Rasul enjoys spending time with his family, reading, travelling and cooking. He is also an avid sports fan.

Clinical Interests

Mr Rasul performs the full range of spinal surgery utilising keyhole approaches and the latest techniques where appropriate. 

He believes in a holistic approach to patient care and treats every patient with respect, compassion and empathy. In addition, he has a strong focus on clinical outcome analysis and patient feedback. He works within the framework of a multidisciplinary team ensuring that patients are provided with all treatment options including both non-operative and operative interventions for all spinal conditions.
