Personal Profile

Dr. Abdul is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Birmingham City Hospital and Sandwell General Hospital. He graduated from Bangalore University in India and pursued his post-graduate specialist training in the UK in general medicine and cardiology at major hospitals in the West Midlands and Wales. 
He has received training as a skilled interventional cardiologist in high-volume complex coronary intervention centres, including the University Hospital of Wales Cardiff and Morriston Cardiac Centre Swansea. 

Dr. Abdul was awarded a CCT in cardiology with a special interest in cardiac intervention in 2017. Following this, he pursued a one-year advanced fellowship in interventional cardiology at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital under the mentorship of an internationally renowned interventional cardiologist.
Since October 2018, Dr. Abdul has been working as an interventional cardiologist at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. He specializes in managing patients with full spectrum of general cardiology conditions and is an expert in coronary artery disease (CAD), hypertension, and valvular heart disease. 
Dr. Abdul operates specialized heart clinics, delivering comprehensive care encompassing prevention, surveillance, and treatment of various cardiac conditions, including angina, heart attack, heart valve disease, cardiac collapse, post-heart surgery care, and other cardiovascular conditions. Additionally, he expertise in cardiac imaging techniques such as coronary CT and structural heart CT (TAVI CT).

Dr. Abdul is proficient in performing both non-invasive and invasive diagnostic procedures, including cardiac catheterizations. Furthermore, he has expertise in therapeutic invasive procedures such as coronary angioplasty, stenting, coronary atherectomy, and valvuloplasty. 

Dr. Abdul holds a cardiovascular research degree (MD) from Cardiff University, focusing on the effects of nitrates on antiplatelet drugs in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), conducted at the Welsh Heart Research Institute Cardiff. He has an extensive publication record in international medical journals and serves as a principal investigator in multicentre international research projects focusing on valve disease and coronary intervention. Additionally, he supervises a PhD student conducting research in cardiovascular disease at Aston University, Birmingham.
In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Abdul holds NHS management roles with responsibilities in human resource management, clinical supervision of doctors and clinical governance. He is deeply committed to teaching and practical skills training; He is an organising director of a simulation training course for interventional fellows, received excellent feedback from attendees. He also serves as the head of the interventional fellowship program at Birmingham City Hospital.

He offers consultations at Priory Hospital for both self-referring patients and those referred by GPs. Additionally, he is multilingual and can provide consultations in Hindi, Urdu, and Kannada.
In his spare time, Dr. Abdul enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and playing sports such as cricket and badminton.
