Personal Profile

Dr Gordon Hale obtained his primary medical qualification from the University of Dundee and was awarded a First-Class Honours intercalated BMSc degree in Human and Clinical Genetics. Following this, Dr Hale spent four years training in general medicine in hospitals in the West of Scotland. In 2014 Dr Hale obtained the MRCP UK qualification and became a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

Dr Hale started his dermatology training as a clinical fellow at the Royal Hospital for Children and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. In 2016, following a competitive process, he was selected to a specialist training programme in dermatology at Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust. On completion, Dr Hale was appointed to NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde in 2020 as a Consultant Dermatologist. He is also an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow.

Dr Hale has written chapters for the Oxford Handbook of Paediatric Dermatology and has published in multiple journals including the British Medical Journal, the British Journal of Dermatology, and Clinical and Experimental Dermatology. He has presented his work at national and international conferences. Dr Hale has also won awards from the British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Dermatology and the North of England Dermatology Society.

Dr Hale is currently Lead Consultant for dermatology training and education in Clyde. He is also Deputy Training Programme Director for the West of Scotland Dermatology registrar training programme. His main research areas of interest are atopic dermatitis and genetic skin disease.

Dr Hale sees children from birth to age 12 in his clinics at the Royal Hospital for Children, and adults at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley. He carries out skin biopsies and cancer surgery from age 12 as part of his regular NHS practice.
