There he worked closely with internationally renowned experts in the field of joint replacement surgery and learned a number of new techniques which he brought back to the UK, and gained insight into the North American orthopaedic practice, broadening his horizon. Mr Matar has an abiding interest and extensive experience in orthopaedic research and has presented his award-winning research both nationally and internationally, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications. He has developed his academic interests early on in his career, working as an undergraduate research assistant in many internationally renowned UK centres, and was appointed as a research associate working on National Institute for Health Research-funded Health Technology Assessment programmes, leading to national guidelines. His research interests have recently been focussed on improving patients’ outcomes in hip and knee replacements and the promotion of evidence-based orthopaedic practice.
