Professional Profile

Dr James Crawshaw is a General Radiologist with a particular interest in oncology and is lead radiologist on several cancer trials running at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, where he’s based in the NHS.  

Training and Appointment

After graduating from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School (Imperial College) in 1997, Dr Crawshaw went on to complete surgical training in London and the South East, obtaining his membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2001.

His Radiology training was based at St George’s Hospital, which included attachments at The Royal Marsden, Great Ormond Street and Atkinson Morley’s Hospital. After completing his studies at the Royal College of Radiologists, he competed sub-specialty training in oncology imaging and nuclear medicine.  He obtained a distinction in the Postgraduate College Certificate in Nuclear Medicine from King's College, London 2007 and then progressed on to the complete an oncology fellowship at the Royal Marsden Hospital.

He was appointed Consultant Radiologist at the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in Guildford in 2007.

Current Practice

Dr Crawshaw is lead local/regional radiologist for the melanoma, lymphoma, upper GI, GIST (digestive tract Gastro Intestinal Stromal Tumour and CUP multi-disciplinary teams. Previous hospital responsibilities have included Radiology Clinical Director (eight years) and Clinical Tutor for local trainees (two years). 

Research and Publications

Dr Crawshaw has taught and presented at national radiology and nuclear medicine conferences, as well as publishing in many radiology journals and also writing a book chapter, Imaging in malignant bone pain, Cancer Related Bone Pain (Oxford Pain Management Library). 

He has taken the lead role in medical student and postgraduate radiology teaching.
