Personal Profile
He graduated from the University of Dundee in 1988 and was awarded FRCS (Glas) in 1992. He trained in Glasgow, Bristol and Edinburgh, benefiting from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG) Travelling Fellowships to the MD Anderson Center, Houston, Texas and the European Institute of Oncology, Milan. Following the award of the Intercollegiate FRCS (Plast) in 1999, he was appointed Consultant Plastic Surgeon in 2001.
Mr Scott's areas of clinical specialisation include scar revisions, split ear lobe repair, the removal of skin lesions including moles, cysts, fatty lumps (lipomas), skin tags and the surgical treatment of skin cancers including basal cell skin cancer (BCC, ‘rodent ulcers’), squamous cell skin cancer (SCC) and melanoma. He is very experienced in all aspects of skin reconstruction including skin grafts and flaps. In melanoma surgery he provides sentinel lymph node biopsy procedures. He works closely with his dermatology colleagues to provide reconstruction surgery for patients undergoing the excision of complex skin cancers using the Mohs surgery technique.
He has a keen interest in postgraduate education, directing many courses at the Glasgow University/RCPSG Clinical Anatomy Skills Centre and has given numerous national and international lectures. He was appointed Joint Committee on Intercollegiate Examinations Plastic Surgery Board Chair in 2017 and RCPSG Vice President (Surgery) in 2020.
