Personal Profile

Jonathan Monk is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in lower limb surgery, particularly hip and knee arthroplasty.

Training and Appointment

Mr Monk is dual Fellowship trained and specialises in lower limb arthroplasty (hip and knee replacements). He undertook his Orthopaedic training at several units in the UK including The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, The Queen’s Major Trauma Centre in Nottingham and the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry.

He worked alongside Mr David Beverland, a world-renowned hip and knee surgeon, at Musgrave Park Hospital in Belfast. He also trained in North America, initially spending time at Shock Trauma in Baltimore, Maryland and subsequently working in a North American Trauma Centre at the Canadian Foothills Hospital in Calgary for a year.

He is an experienced trainer and spends much of his time working on the education of Orthopaedic surgeons.  From 2015 to 2019, Jonathan ran the London Trauma Symposium, which is one of the largest trauma conferences held in the UK. Through his involvement with the Royal Society of Medicine, he evolved the symposium into an international event that attracted faculty and delegates from around the world.

Mr Monk is the Chairman of the European Board of AO with responsibilities for education of surgeons across Europe and Sub-equatorial Africa. AO is the worldwide organisation for the training of Orthopaedic surgeons. He not only oversees all of the UK courses but also co-ordinates International Courses.

Current Practice

He runs a high volume hip and knee replacement practice specialising in all aspects of hip and knee replacement surgery. He has a practice based at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals, alongside his private practice.

Throughout the past 10 years, Jonathan has been involved in providing the orthopaedic cover at the three major film studios in the London region – Pinewood, Shepperton and Longcross. Having worked closely with the stunt departments, including with Mr Greg Powell (an award-winning British stuntman, stunt coordinator and actor), he has progressed to providing the medical cover for films such as Spectre and Star Wars, alongside many others.
