His area of interest includes laparoscopic surgery, benign upper gastrointestinal surgery and surgical management of abdominal wall and groin hernia. He has a keen interest in quality and safety in Surgery and healthcare and has completed a Master’s degree in Patient Safety: A Human Factors Approach from the University of Aberdeen as well as the Scottish Quality and Safety Fellowship.
Mr Kumar is also actively involved in teaching and training surgical trainees and consultants. He is Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s National Clinical Lead for the Scottish Mortality & Morbidity Program (SMMP), which aims to improve safety reviews and processes in health and social care using a Human Factors or Ergonomics approach and Quality Improvement methodology. He is also a committee member of the Law Society of Scotland’s Health and Medical Law Subcommittee and an ambassador for the Clinical Human Factors Group.
