Personal Profile

Mr Jenkinson graduated from the University of Dundee Medical School in 2009. He completed his specialist orthopaedic training in the West of Scotland region in 2020. Mr Jenkinson subsequently spent two years on fellowship in London becoming a specialist in young adult hip surgery. He works as an NHS Consultant in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Gartnavel General Hospital, and as a Private Consultant at Ross Hall Hospital in Glasgow.

Mr Jenkinson has a specialist interest in the investigation and management of all forms of hip pain including hip dysplasia, femoroacetabular impingement, hip bursitis, hip tendonitis, avascular necrosis, sports hip injuries and hip arthritis in patients of all ages. Mr Jenkinson’s areas of specialist interest include hip preservation surgery, such as hip arthroscopy and osteotomies of both the femur and acetabulum. He has a tertiary Young Adult Hip Practice in Glasgow which performs peri-acetabular osteotomies (PAO) on patients with hip dysplasia (DDH) from across Scotland. These operations aim to prevent or delay the progression of hip arthritis in patients with painful hip joints.

Mr Jenkinson performs hip replacements in people of all ages from teenagers to elderly patients. He investigates and manages painful total hip replacements and performs revision hip surgery on failing implants. He contributes to the management of periprosthetic fractures around the hip joint.

Mr Jenkinson has three higher degrees in Clinical Education, Trauma and Orthopaedics, and Research, and is a Senior Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow Medical School. He uses the skills obtained from these qualifications and connections to educate undergraduate, postgraduate and higher surgical trainees in hip surgery, as well as when teaching on courses at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He collaborates closely with researchers at the University of Strathclyde to improve the outcomes of hip surgery.

In his youth, Mr. Jenkinson represented both Ireland (Schools) and Scotland (Universities) at rugby, and in his spare time he still enjoys playing and watching sport. He lives an active lifestyle that he promotes to his patients, loves exploring Scotland’s wilderness in all weather, and is happiest when conquering another Munro.
