Mr Mark Thomas

Personal Profile

Mr Thomas was born in London and grew up in Hampshire. He graduated from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, London in 1991. After his basic surgical rotation, he was trained in orthopaedic surgery via the North West Thames rotation based at Charing Cross Hospital and St Mary's Hospital.

Mr Thomas then undertook a fellowship in arthroplasty, spinal surgery and trauma in Toronto, Canada. This was a fantastic and busy year that helped him to hone in on his skills and prepare for his consultant post.

Mr Thomas was appointed as a consultant at Frimley Park Hospital in 2002 and worked there for 20 years, he developed a bust private practice alongside his NHS practice and continues to develop that to provide care for patients locally and in London.

Clinical Interests

Mr Thomas undertakes all aspects of spinal surgery except occipitocervical work (operations between the skull and upper neck) and corrective spinal deformity work.

The majority of his work is treating degenerative conditions of the spine such as disc disease and spinal stenosis. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive spinal surgery, helping to get the patient back to full function as quickly as possible after surgery.

Mr Thomas also has an interest in conditions affecting the sacroiliac joint and coccyx. He regularly performs procedures to help reinforce the spine with cement after fractures in the elderly (vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty).
