Mr Martin Wood

Personal Profile

Mr Woods is a Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon based at Guy’s and St Thomas NHS Trust and the Evelina Children’s Hospital. This incorporates the regional Evelina London Cleft Service, formally the South Thames Cleft Service. He is one of a small number of Consultant Surgeons dually qualified in Medicine and Dentistry.

His main areas of interest are the surgical management of congenital and acquired facial deformity (orthognathic surgery) and surgically assisted oral rehabilitation.
Mr Woods provides a wide range of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery services including assessment and diagnosis of diseases of the mouth and face, surgical management of benign pathology of the jaws, pre-orthodontic surgery and removal of complex and impacted teeth. This includes the surgical removal of wisdom teeth and treatment of jaw cysts. He also offers advice and surgical support with bone grafting to the jaws to facilitate placement of dental implants.

Mr Woods qualified as a Dentist from St Bart’s and the Royal London Hospital in 2002. On graduation he undertook training posts in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, General Dental Practice, and Special Care Dentistry. He subsequently trained as a Doctor at UCL and the Royal Free Medical School, qualifying in 2009. Following junior surgical training posts in Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery, General Surgery, ENT and Intensive Care he was accepted for higher surgical training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in the South Thames Region.  This period of training included posts in two Level 1 Trauma centres and two Regional Head and Neck Cancer centres. On completion of his higher training Mr Woods undertook a fellowship in Craniofacial Surgery at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and another fellowship in Maxillofacial Surgery at St George’s Hospital, London. Both Fellowships provided valuable additional experience in the management of complex facial deformity.

During his training he published in peer reviewed journals and contributed to chapters in text books, and is currently an Assigned Educational Supervisor.
