Personal Profile

Mr Matt Lechner, MD PhD FRCS(ORL-HNS) FHEA, trained in Ear, Nose & Throat surgery in London at University College London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust, incl. St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital as well as The National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital and other hospitals in the UK. He completed a one-year surgical Fellowship in Rhinology and Advanced Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery at Stanford University, equipping him with a wide range of skills in nose and advanced endoscopic sinus surgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a member of various societies, such as the British, European and American Rhinologic Societies, and clinical working groups, such as the Clinical Olfactory Working Group with a focus on smell disorders, incl. Covid-19-associated smell dysfunction.

He holds a tenured Associate Professor appointment at University College London, leading a research programme with a focus on rhinology, smell loss, strategies for early cancer drug development and precision medicine. He has published more than 100 original articles covering rhinology, smell disorders, and tumour biology. He was awarded a prestigious Hunterian Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2020.

He regularly lectures internationally and is involved in various courses and teaching programmes both in the UK and abroad. He is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Mr. Lechner lives in London. He is interested in sport, philosophy and the arts.
