At his NHS post at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, Mr Williamson is a Consultant surgeon and lead clinician and is the network clinical lead for colorectal cancer in the Avon, Somerset and Wiltshire region. He is also a Clinical teacher at the University of Bristol Medical Academy.
Mr Mike Williamson graduated from the University of Wales (Cardiff) with an intercalated BSc (Hons) in Physiology. He then went on to continue his Junior Surgical Training in South Wales, before qualifying as Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of London. He took up a research post studying the functional results of surgery for ulcerative colitis including ileoanal pouch function at the General Infirmary in Leeds, which led to the award of an MD.
Mr Williamson continued his senior surgical training on the West Yorkshire SpR Rotation achieving Fellow of the Joint UK Royal of Surgeons (Gen) and Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in 1997. He then spent a colorectal fellowship year in Concord Hospital, Sydney, returning to Yorkshire in 1998 to complete his training. He was appointed as Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon in Bath in 1999.
Mr Williamson is married with three children. He enjoys a wide range of outdoor activities including walking, cycling, skiing and sailing.
