Professional Profile

Dr. Michala Pedersen is a Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist. This means she specialises in rhythm disorders of the heart; she assesses, investigates and treats heart rhythm disturbances.

Dr. Michala Pedersen qualified from Oxford University after completing her junior years at Oxford. She did her Cardiology and then Electrophysiology training in London, predominantly at the Royal Brompton Hospital. She did a year one fellowship in Bordeaux with Prof Hassaguerre. She has a DPhil (PhD) from Oxford University and has written multiple papers and book chapters.

She is also active in teaching, she is a lecturer in clinical medicine at the Christ Church College, Oxford. Dr. Michala Pedersen was appointed to a joint consultant post between Oxford University and Northampton General Hospital in 2016.

Her current work involves specialist rhythm clinics in Northampton and invasive rhythm procedures 'electrophysiological studies and ablation' and implantable devices in Oxford.

Clinical Interests

Her work focuses on understanding and treating arrhythmias. Most arrhythmias are not life-threatening but can cause unpleasant symptoms such as palpitations (awareness of the heart beating), reduced exercise tolerance, shortness of breath, or dizziness.

One diagnosis is made or confirmed, and sometimes reassurance is right, but sometimes treatments with tablets or electrophysiological studies and ablation are suggested. Sometimes an implantable device (pacemaker or ICD) may be required.

She is specialized in ablation to treat SVT, AF, AT, and VT. Furthermore, she implants most types of devices.
