He then worked in Scotland for several years gaining experience in the field of maxillofacial surgery before acceptance to medical school at Guys, Kings and St Thomas’, London graduating in 2001.
After completing his basic surgical training in Accident & Emergency, General Surgery, Orthopaedics and ENT at Northwick Park Hospital, NW London, Miles undertook higher surgical training in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery in the North East of England, based at Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Newcastle and then on the South Coast, training at Brighton, Eastbourne and then at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, being awarded FRCS (Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery) in 2017.
Miles’ main interest is in the correction of facial deformity, offering the full range of Orthognathic (Jaw corrective) surgery. Management of facial trauma is an important aspect of his weekly routine. He is also involved with removal of facial skin cancer and other facial skin lesions, and assessment and removal of lumps of the salivary glands. Recently he has introduced minimally invasive salivary gland surgery (sialendoscopy) to the unit in Lancaster, having been trained by Professor Mark McGurk, London. He offers investigations, including biopsy of oral or perioral lesions, treatment of oral ulcers and other mucosal conditions, and management of TMJ disorders. Oral surgery interests include implantology, sinus lifts and bone grafting, removal of wisdom teeth and complex dento-alveolar procedures.
Miles moved back to his home town after completing his training in the North East and South East of England. He is married and has a young son. He enjoys squash, tennis and running and is an accomplished snow-boarder. He attained grade 8 with distinction on the classical guitar and has a diploma from the Victoria College of Music (AVCM).
