Professional Profile
I studied medicine in Glasgow qualifying in 1979. Following extensive experience in all the medical specialities relating to Internal Medicine, I trained in Rheumatology at Saint Thomas' Hospital in London, where I was subsequently Honorary Consultant Physician for 7 years. At Saint Thomas' I engaged in internationally important medical research in lupus and in vasculitis, particularly in relation to pregnancy. I also qualified in Rehabilitation Medicine, training at the Defence Medical Services rehabilitation unit at Headley court.
I was appointed as Consultant Rheumatologist to the Royal Hampshire County Hospital and the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases at Bath in 1995. Between 2000 and 2015 I was also Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the University of Bath. At that time, I was Director of Studies for a Diploma and MSc programme for general practitioners to train in rheumatology.
Since 2015 I have been working solely in Winchester.
