Training and Appointment
He graduated from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School in 2005 and went on to complete his specialty training in Ophthalmology in the South West along with further subspecialist training. He was awarded his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) from the Royal College of Ophthalmologist in 2014 and he has been a consultant at Frimley Park Hospital since 2016. He has previously served as clinical lead for Ophthalmology at Frimley Park, where he was involved in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and remodelling of eye services to continue to treat as many people as possible in the safest possible way.
Mr Modi is GMC registered and is a member of the UK and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS), European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), British Oculoplastics Society (BOPSS) and UK and Eire Glaucoma Society (UKEGS).
Mr Modi has completed over 1,000 cataract operations including complex cases and has expertise in using a wide range of intraocular lenses. He has further subspecialist expertise in glaucoma and oculoplastic (eyelid) surgery.
Mr Modi has written the textbook 'Basic Science in Ophthalmology,' published by Oxford University Press and is the surgical simulation training lead for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Ophthalmology training programme.
Current Practice
Mr Modi offers a comprehensive list of treatments for ophthalmic conditions including premium and toric lenses for cataract surgery; YAG laser capsulotomy; a range of glaucoma treatments including Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT); minimally invasive glaucoma surgery and conventional trabeculectomy surgery; a full range of oculoplastic treatments including eyelid cancer surgery and cosmetic procedures such as blepharoplasty. He also offers treatments for eyelid malposition such as entropion or ectropion, ptosis, blepharitis, dry and watery eyes including a range of surgical options for these including punctal plugs and punctoplasty or dacrocystorhinostomy (DCR) surgery. Mr Modi regularly audits his surgical outcomes against published standards, showing excellent outcomes and always with a view to finding ways to improve outcomes further.
Mr Modi is actively involved in teaching trainee eye surgeons and is the Kent-Surrey-Sussex deanery lead for Ophthalmic simulation. He has organised and taught on a number of national and regional training courses for cataract and oculoplastic surgery. He has also written a book that has been published by Oxford University Press and is widely used by trainees taking the Royal College exams. He has published a number of research papers and presented his work at international meetings on subjects such as cataract surgery, anaesthetic for eye surgery and simulation.
Mr Modi takes great pride in his work and also in how he communicates with his patients. He puts an emphasis on allowing enough time to listen and discuss each condition and allowing the patient to make his or her own informed decision.
In his spare time, Mr Modi enjoys mountain biking, gardening and spending time with his young family.
