Personal Profile

Nick Elkington is the clinical lead for Minimal Access Surgery and Endometriosis at Frimley Park Hospital, where he has been a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist since 2006.

He trained at St Thomas's Hospital Medical School 1986-1992. He returned to St Thomas's as a post-graduate and worked as an obstetrics and gynaecology registrar and then a reproductive medicine registrar at the Guys and St Thomas's Assisted Conception Unit (ACU). From an early stage in his career, he was an enthusiast in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. He decided to leave London for Bristol and was appointed as a Specialist Registrar in the SouthWest of England (1998-2003). He decided to do advanced training in laparoscopic surgery and was appointed as a Laparoscopic Fellow at Sydney Women's Endosurgery Centre (SWEC), in Sydney Australia (2003-2005).

He then returned to Bristol, England before being appointed as a substantive consultant at Frimley Park Hospital in 2006 as lead for laparoscopic surgery. In 2009, he became an accredited da Vinci robotic surgeon, with Intuitive Surgical. He leads the Frimley Endometriosis Service, which is fully accredited with the BSGE (British Society of Gynaecological Endosurgery).

As a senior consultant (and Deputy Chief of Service), he is also responsible for training Senior Trainees in advanced gynaecological surgery. He is a pioneering surgeon in laparoscopic and robotic surgery and is a past President of the British and Irish Association of Robotic Gynaecologists (BIARGS).

As well as providing general gynaecological services, he also offers couples investigation and treatment of fertility. He has always maintained his strong interest in helping couples to have a family either with medication, surgery or assisted conception.

Renowned for his kind, approachable demeanour, Nick is a popular, highly skilled surgeon with a very busy NHS and private practice.
