Personal Profile

Mr Bailey is a Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon with specific sub-specialist expertise in sports knee injuries and modern techniques in treating both early and late knee arthritis.

Mr Bailey was awarded an honours medical degree from the University of Glasgow and a Masters degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine from the University of Bath. After completing 8 years of specialty orthopaedic registrar training in the West of Scotland, this was followed by subspecialty fellowships in soft tissue knee reconstruction and complex knee trauma at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and Birmingham's Military Level 1 Trauma Centre.

Mr Bailey has a sub-specialist expertise in knee preservation surgery, keyhole soft tissue knee reconstruction, patella instability, knee replacement surgery, and complex knee trauma.

In 2019 Mr Bailey developed the expert acute knee service in NHS Lanarkshire where he is a substantive NHS consultant leading a high-volume tertiary referral practice in complex ligament reconstruction, meniscal surgery, patella realignment, and knee replacement surgery. He is confident in treating all ages of patient and all levels of athlete from the weekend warrior to elite national level.

Mr Bailey is actively involved in high level research on a number of international and national multi-centre trials involving knee injuries and disease. Along with his research interests, he is actively involved in teaching and education and leads on a wide number of courses, conferences, and registrar teaching programs. In his spare time he has contributed to book chapters on knee injuries and is an active member of the Royal College education board helping to meet the educational needs of current and future surgeons.

On his days off he enjoys spending time with his wife and son.
