Professional Profile

Dr Omay Lee is a Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist specialising in neuromuscular disorders, peripheral nerve diseases and epilepsy.

Training and Appointment

Dr Lee undertook her undergraduate medical degree at the University of Cambridge, with an intercalated degree in Natural Sciences in 2008, completing her clinical training in London in 2011. She then undertook foundation training at Wessex deanery with medical and surgical rotations in Southampton General Hospital from 2011-2013, then postgraduate core and higher training in Edinburgh with training in psychiatry, general acute and internal medicine, and neurology from 2013-2016.

She was then awarded a clinical research fellowship at the University of Edinburgh, undertaking basic laboratory research in neurodevelopmental genetics at the Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine in Edinburgh. She then completed higher specialist training in Clinical Neurophysiology in London at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Current Practice

Dr Lee’s NHS practice is based at both St George’s Hospital London and Royal Surrey County Hospital (for which she is the consultant lead for the department). As a neurophysiology physician, she sees patients and performs and interprets investigations which record electrical activity from the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles in order to aid diagnosis of neurological conditions.

At Mount Alvernia Hospital, Dr Lee provides a full neuromuscular diagnostic service using EMG and nerve conduction studies. She commonly assesses patients with acute or chronic nerve and muscle conditions, including entrapment neuropathies, nerve root problems, peripheral neuropathies, myasthenia gravis, as well as more rare nerve and muscle conditions. She also provides EEG diagnostic evaluation of epilepsy.

Clinical Interests

  • Peripheral nerve problems including neuropathies (carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar neuropathy, peripheral neuropathy)
  • Nerve root problems
  • Neuromuscular disorders and myopathy
  • EEG evaluation of epilepsy.

Services provided at Mount Alvernia Hospital for patients over the age of 16:

  • Nerve conduction studies (NCS)
  • Electromyography (EMG)
  • Electroencephalography (EEG).
