Personal Profile
In 2012 Dr Thomson completed his training in Renal and General Internal Medicine, and was appointed as a Consultant Renal Physician in the Glasgow Renal & Transplant Unit at the Western Infirmary. In 2015, the Unit relocated to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where Dr Thomson continues to practice, providing kidney care for patients across Greater Glasgow and Forth Valley.
A General Renal Physician with a subspecialist interest in haemodialysis, Dr Thomson provides care for people with acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease, and those requiring dialysis and ongoing care for those with kidney transplants. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow and provides teaching to medical undergraduates and postgraduates.
Dr Thomson continues to publish clinical research, acts as a reviewer for a range of medical journals, and is an invited speaker at international medical conferences. He was a co-author on the 2023 UK Kidney Association Haemodialysis Vascular Access Guidelines, and is a member of the Scottish Renal Registry Steering Group.
