Professional profile

Mr Yassa is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, he's been based at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust since 2019.

Having graduated in Egypt, Mr Yassa went on to undertake his MSc in Trauma and Orthopaedics, with completion in 2002. He completed his Higher Orthopaedic Training in the Manchester rotation, and went on to gain his Royal College of Surgeons of England Membership in 2008. He attained his Intercollegiate Fellowship in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2018.

Mr Yassa developed a particular interest in various aspects of knee surgery and lower limb arthroplasty, of which he completed further specialist training fellowships following his Higher Orthopaedic Training.

Throughout his orthopaedic training in the North West, Mr Yassa focused on lower limb surgery. During his final stage of training, he spent time at specialist units in the North West, such as Wrightington Hospital and Stockport Knee Unit, helping him to refine his specialist interest and develop a good foundation of training and skill for his later career. In addition, Mr Yassa undertook A-O Fellowship at Krankenhaus der Barmerzigen Brüder, Germany. As a successful trainee with a good reputation, he was competitively selected for a Post-CCT DePuy Knee Fellowship at York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. During his fellowship, he gained significant experience through exposure to a high volume of knee surgery, including knee arthroplasty, various knee soft tissue procedures, patellofemoral stabilisation procedures and knee joint preservation surgery, and paediatric knee surgery.

As part of his continuing training, he also undertook a Charnley Latta Travelling Knee Fellowship (Patello-femoral disorders) with Dr David DeJour in Lyon, France. This has further added to his repertoire of skill-set and experience.

Mr Yassa strives to deliver an exceptional service that responds to the needs of the local population. He puts his patients at the heart of the service he provides, through a patient-centred approach.

His scope of practice includes knee surgery and primary lower limb arthroplasty (hip and knee replacement) including complex primary lower limb arthroplasty. Mr Yassa’s scope of knee surgery embraces comprehensive knee surgery, including joint preservation surgery (osteotomy and partial knee replacement), patellofemoral disorders and various arthroscopic knee soft tissue procedures.  Mr Yassa also performs pelvic and acetabular trauma surgery.

Mr Yassa has led innovation and the introduction of new services related to trauma and knee surgery at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. In addition to his busy clinical and surgical practice, he is also active in research, with numerous publications to his name. He has also undertaken national and international presentations on knee surgery and trauma.
