Personal Profile

Mr Rohit Gupta is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in upper limb (shoulder and elbow).

Training and Appointment

Mr Gupta was born in the UK. He completed his undergraduate medical training at Guy's Hospital Medical School, University of London and qualified in 1993. His postgraduate surgical training was at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals, London and his Specialist Orthopaedic Surgery training was undertaken in the South East Thames region of the NHS (South East London & Kent), including at the world-renowned Guy's, St Thomas' and King's College Teaching Hospitals.

Upon completion of his orthopaedic training, he undertook one year of Specialist Surgical Fellowship training in shoulder/upper limb surgery and sports medicine/arthroscopic surgery in Perth, Australia from 2003 - 2004. He worked with some of the best surgeons in Australia, to hone his complex arthroscopic reconstructive skills, and as a result Mr Gupta now specialises in minimally invasive/keyhole surgery.

He was subsequently appointed as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Shoulder & Upper Limb surgery at the nationally renowned Rowley-Bristow Orthopaedic Unit, Ashford and St Peter's Hospital NHS Trust. He has contributed to developing the Upper Limb Surgery service since 2005 and is currently the Upper Limb Surgery Speciality Lead Clinician.

He has developed a Specialist Upper Limb private practice with clinics in Chertsey, Woking and Weybridge and has a private practice at Runnymede Hospital.

Current Practice

Mr Gupta uses the latest technology in diagnostic investigation, including MRI arthrography, 3D CT scanning, high definition ultrasound, digital radiology, and electromyography. In particular, he specialises in arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery to treat many conditions such as frozen shoulder, tendonitis, rotator cuff tear, dislocation, biceps injury, tennis elbow, stiff elbow, carpal instability, TFCC tear, and all forms of arthritis. He has additional expertise in all forms of shoulder and elbow replacement surgery, from partial / resurfacing to complex revision replacements. In upper limb trauma surgery, he uses some of the latest customised fracture fixation implants in order to achieve the very best clinical outcomes.

Mr Gupta is a very enthusiastic promoter of the multi-disciplinary approach towards the management of his patients, and works very closely with a dedicated specialist team of radiologists (specialised in musculoskeletal radiology), anaesthetists (specialised in upper limb regional nerve blocks), physiotherapists and occupational hand therapists.
