Personal Profile

Mr Sam Nahas specialises in all knee conditions. This includes sports injury (ligament and cartilage surgery), deformity surgery around the knee (osteotomy), knee replacement (total and partial), knee fracture surgery, patella (kneecap) instability and knee keyhole surgery. 
 
He treats a variety of patients in his role as an expert Knee Surgeon. This includes those with issues ranging for osteoarthritis of the knee, to elite sports people with ligament and cartilage injury.  
 
Mr Nahas prides himself on a unique understanding of the fact that every patient is individual and has different requirements. It is of utmost importance that the needs of every patient he meets are listened to and a treatment plan is tailored based on a detailed history, careful examination of the knee and further detailed imaging as necessary. 
 
The landscape of orthopaedic surgery changes over time, and this is something Mr Nahas has an acute awareness of. He regularly attends international meetings and is up to date with the cutting-edge and best techniques. He has been involved in the care of many top-level elite athletes and has a deep understanding of the attention to detail and what it takes to get the best result possible. He is frequently referred complex cases by colleagues both in the context of knee replacement and ligament surgery. 
 
Mr Nahas qualified at St Bartholemew’s and the Royal London Medical School. Most of his training was in the prestigious North West Thames Trauma and Orthopaedic rotation. After completing his training he specialised in a fellowship in knee surgery at the Royal Berkshire and has remained there as a consultant ever since. 
 
Mr Nahas is a respected teacher and educator for junior doctors, allied healthcare professionals and medical students. He has a pivotal role in Brunel Medical School, being head of Orthopaedics, and being responsible for aspects of curriculum design. Previously he had a substantial teaching commitment at Imperial College, having completed a Masters in University Learning and Teaching at the institution. He also has a strong interest in Research and is currently undertaking several projects at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and aims to conduct innovative educational research at Brunel Medical School. He also instructs as an advanced trauma and life support educator, teaching other senior doctors.

Adult knee problems. Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, acl injury, multi-ligament knee injury, meniscal tear, chondral pathology, deformity around the knee.
