Personal Profile

Mr Yasen is a Consultant Knee and Hip surgeon, with a specialist interest in Sports Injuries and knee joint preservation.

Mr Yasen has a high-volume practice in Hampshire in both the NHS and private sector, with a recognised tertiary referral practice in realignment osteotomy surgery, multiligament surgery and meniscal transplantation.  He is a leading researcher and international speaker, regularly teaching other surgeons with respect to techniques in knee joint preservation.  When appropriate, Mr Yasen will offer partial or total joint replacement if preservation techniques are unsuitable.  His goal is to provide patients with durable solutions to their problems through a thorough assessment of the underlying pathology, including appropriate biomechanical evaluation.

Mr Yasen sees privately insured patients as well as self-pay patients, and will see patients without a letter of referral. He requests that any prior investigations are made available to his secretary prior to review.

Mr Yasen trained in King's College London, graduating with Triple Distinction in undergraduate medicine and Honours in a BSc in physiology in 2006. His surgical training was in the Wessex region. He was awarded the national Sir Walter Mercer Gold Medal in Trauma & Orthopaedics in 2014, and The McLeod Medal in Sports and Exercise Medicine also in 2014, for the most exceptional examination performances in the country.  In 2021 Mr Yasen was awarded the Top Doctors award (a peer-endorsed award) recognising his expertise in his field.

He is Fellowship trained in Trauma surgery (John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford), and advanced Knee surgery (Basingstoke Hospital). Mr Yasen holds additional degrees in Engineering (Masters - MSc - with distinction) from Cardiff University, and Teaching (Bristol University- PGCE - again with distinction).  He is a Research Fellow at the University of Winchester and Research Lead for the Department of Trauma & Orthopaedics at Hampshire Hospitals.

Mr Yasen has a broad experience of teaching from undergraduate level to international lecturing and presentations. He is widely published and has authored several book chapters on surgery of the knee.  He is a recognised international expert in ligament surgery and knee osteotomy and is an invited faculty member on several international courses and conferences, as well as convening his own internationally attended courses.  His NHS practice is a visitation centre for other surgeons, and he has taught surgeons from across the globe with techniques in knee joint preservation.

Mr Yasen aims to deliver the highest standards of patient care, as evidenced on I Want Great Care and other review websites.

I Want Great Care -'Mr Yasen was a tremendous source of information and support around my knee issues, and I immediately knew I was in the right hands. His care post-op was also exemplary, he spent as much time as necessary to explain how the procedure went and to provide reassurance, especially when the healing was longer than expected. I could not have asked for better care and treatment from a specialist surgeon, and feel relieved to have found him.'
