Professional Profile

Mr Sonpreet Rai is a Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.  His main clinical areas of interest are renal cancer, bladder cancer and the diagnosis and management of prostate conditions. Sonpreet is the Cancer Lead for Urology at the Trust.

In addition to his sub-specialist practice, Sonpreet has broad expertise in managing general urological conditions. Sonpreet sees patients with a range of symptoms, from lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), urinary tract infections (UTI), kidney stones, testicular lumps and testicular pain, blood in the urine (haematuria) or semen (haematospermia), incontinence and erectile dysfunction. Sonpreet also sees patients who may have no symptoms, for example, men concerned about prostate cancer and wishing to undergo a prostate health check. 

Sonpreet qualified in Medicine and Surgery with honours from St. Bartholomew’s and The Royal London School of Medicine & Dentistry. He completed his Specialist Urological training on the Yorkshire rotation training programme and was the recipient of the prestigious Gordon Bryden Medal for outstanding academic work.

Sonpreet completed a year of sub-specialist laparoscopic training in Renal Cancer whilst at St James’s University Hospital, Leeds. He went on to secure a coveted Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSEng) accredited Senior Clinical Fellowship in Robotic Surgery in both Bladder Cancer and Renal cancer at the internationally renowned Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London, the first Vattikuti Foundation accredited Robotic Surgery Institute in the UK.

Outside of his clinical commitments, Sonpreet is also a Clinical Surgical Tutor for Oxford Medical Students and an Educational Supervisor for Foundation (junior doctor) Trainees.

He is married with two children. Outside of work, he enjoys running and swimming and is a keen sports fan with a strong following of Formula 1 racing and Football.
