At Goring Hall Hospital, he offers a range of services, including routine eye exams, advanced diagnostics, cataract surgery with either Monofocal, Multifocal or Toric lenses, age-related macular degeneration, lesions on the eye, Glaucoma assessment and management, YAG Laser and SLT laser for Glaucoma. Training
He graduated from Athens Medical School in 1997 and completed his training in general Ophthalmology in 2007 at the Red Cross General Hospital in Athens. Mr Mourtzoukos gained experience in surgical retina work at Hallamshire Hospital Sheffield from 2008-2011 and medical retina work at Southampton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust from 2012-2013.
Subsequently, he worked at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, where he was the clinical lead in Diabetic Ophthalmology taking responsibility for the Diabetic Macular Edema service. He currently does vitreoretinal surgery at Queen Alexandra Hospital. He also works on retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and proliferative diabetic retinopathy at Queen Alexandra Hospital.

During your initial consultation with our Ophthalmologist, expect a comprehensive eye assessment, personalised to your needs. Mr Mourtzoukos will discuss your medical history and our team will perform any necessary diagnostic exams and address any concerns. Mr Mourtzoukos aims to obtain a clear understanding of your eye health and provide tailored recommendations for optimal vision care.
Teaching and research
Mr Mourtzoukos has been a college tutor at Queen Alexandra Hospital since 2018. He teaches first-year trainees cataract surgery and laser photocoagulation and intravitreal injection procedures. He also teaches foundation year doctors fundoscopy. Also, GP trainees attend on a 6-month basis to obtain a general overview as a sub-special interest. He is a member of the research team for diabetic maculopathy and AMD.
