Personal Profile

Mr Mehta qualified from Bombay University, India in 1995.  He completed his basic surgical training at Ipswich Hospital in Suffolk.

Thereafter, he pursued a higher research degree – MD (vascular surgery) at the University of Hull in East Yorkshire.  Mr Mehta completed his higher surgical training in East Anglia, during which he was posted at Ipswich Hospital, Norfolk & Norwich Hospital and Addenbrookes Hospital.

His final year of training was completed at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, Australia.  Thereafter he did a post-CCT endovascular fellowship at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.  He was appointed as a consultant vascular surgeon at Bedford Hospital in September 2010. 

Mr Mehta’s main areas of interest are aneurysm repair using endovascular techniques (EVAR) and peripheral arterial disease.  His research was in supervised exercise and angioplasty in patients with intermittent claudication, for which he was awarded the British Journal of Surgery research bursary in 2001.

Mr Mehta is the vascular lead for Diabetic foot patients in Bedford Hospital.  He is keen to adopt a multi-modality approach in treating patients with Critical Limb Threatening Ischaemia (CLTI), especially in diabetic patients.

Mr Mehta also leads on vascular access service with tunnelled lines using Portacaths for chemotherapy and other long term conditions that required deep venous access.

Mr Mehta offers comprehensive treatment of varicose veins using an ala carte approach, which is patient specific.  He is well versed in Radiofrequency Ablation, multiple avulsions and Foam Sclerotherapy as treatment modalities for varicose veins.  Mr Mehta is also the vascular audit lead at Bedford Hospital and is an examiner for the FRCS (vascular) exam.

In his free time Mr Mehta enjoys cooking and can conjure up some mean curries.  He also likes keeping fit by running, rowing and swimming.
