Personal profile

After completing his Orthopaedic training in India, Mr Kempanna came to the UK in 2001. Here, he underwent both basic surgical training and higher surgical training in the South of England at Western Sussex Hospitals, St Richards Hospital in Chichester and Southampton University Hospitals.

Mr Kempanna has undertaken a Hip and Knee Arthroplasty fellowship under Prof Dunlop at very busy Southampton University Hospitals before he took up a Consultant post at the same hospital from 2017 for 2 years. He has progressed and moved to Salford Royal Hospital, Manchester in 2019. He has wide experience in hip and knee related problems.

Mr Kempanna has excellent outcomes recorded following hip and knee replacements. This is evident in his National Joint Registry (NJR) reports and Patient Reported Outcomes (PROMS) which are available online.

He regularly carries out complex hip replacements for previous pelvic and acetabular fractures and re-do hip surgery in Greater Manchester. He provides specialist advise and treatment for pelvic and Sacro-iliac joint related problems and receives referrals from regional hospitals.

Mr Kempanna is a mortality and morbidity lead for the department and teaches both undergraduate and post-graduate surgical trainees in Salford Royal Hospital.
