Personal profile

Dr Lim underwent Gastroenterology training at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge and then embarked on a year-long Endoscopy fellowship programme in the same hospital.

During this time, his work was published in leading endoscopic journals. His previously published work was on Barrett’s oesophagus, gastric cancer and colonoscopy. He retains an interest in all aspects of Gastroenterology and attends major UK and European meetings to keep himself updated. His submitted abstracts at national meetings were awarded prizes. He also accepted a travelling grant to the UEGW to present his work. Dr Lim previously performed peer reviewing and academic editorial work.  

He joined the specialist register in 2014 and worked as a Locum Consultant in Durham before returning back home to Malaysia in 2017 under the Returning Expert Programme.

He was a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Gleneagles Hospital for 2 years, managing all aspects of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. During this time he introduced a video capsule enteroscopy service, high resolution manometry and impedance and nasoendoscopy.

In 2019, he returned to the UK and was appointed to a substantive post in Harrogate District and Foundation Trust. He currently works as a general gastroenterologist with a broad range of interests. His NHS clinics are in Harrogate and Ripon and he has a private practice at the Duchy Hospital.

In 2020, Dr Lim was appointed as an Honorary Senior Lecturer with the University of Leeds. In 2022, he achieved the Bowel Cancer Screening Accreditation.

Outside of work, Dr Lim is married to his wife who is a GP. They have 4 young children.

Clinical interests

Dr Lim has a broad experience at consultant level working with all aspect of Gastroenterology through his training and experiences both locally and abroad. He took up the work of a General Gastroenterologist in the UK and in 2022, he obtained accreditation as a Bowel Cancer Screening Endoscopist.

In clinic, he typically sees patients with symptoms of:

  • Dyspepsia
  • Swallowing difficulty
  • Change in bowel habit
  • Weight loss
  • Diarrhoea
  • Rectal bleeding

He also diagnoses patients with symptoms of colon, stomach and oesophageal cancer. He manages a cohort of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, coeliac disease, eosinophilic oesophagitis and irritable bowel syndrome.
