Personal Profile

Dr Karen Guerrero was born in Gibraltar where she grew up. She came to the UK in 1990 where she studied medicine at the University of Leeds. She began her training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in West Yorkshire, prior to moving to Wales where she completed her training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She underwent fellowships in Urogynaecology/Female Urology in Swansea and gained dual accreditation in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and as a Sub-Specialist in Urogynaecology.

Following this she was an Honorary Consultant, working in a dedicated Continence Service for the Older Adult in Wales, before taking up her current post in Glasgow.

Dr Guerrero currently works as a Subspecialist Urogynaecologist for NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Her workload relates to women (from age 18 yrs) with Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. She served as Clinical Lead for Urogynaecology across NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde until August 2023 and continues to work as part of the multidisciplinary team offering secondary and tertiary level urogynaecology to the West of Scotland.

Dr Guerrero is well published in the field on Urogynaecology. In June 2017 she was awarded a National Health Research Senior Fellowship for her research work in this field. She also serves as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow

She is the training programme supervisor for the RCOG Sub-specialty training programme in Urogynaecology in Scotland. She also teaches on and runs various national courses and meetings.

Dr Guerrero is a national and internationally renowned speaker in her field, presenting both research and clinical work to colleagues worldwide. She is a certified mentor through the British Society of Urogynaecology and this way supports other consultants, as well as trainees, in developing their urogynaecology surgical skills

Dr Guerrero is the current Chair of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Sub-specialty Training Committee and Chair – Charity trustee of the UK Continence Society. She is previous Chair of the British Society of Urogynaecology Training Committee and now serves as Treasurer and Executive Committee Member.
