Personal Profile
Mr Patel completed his surgical training in the East of England rotation. His surgical training was heavily tailored towards upper gastrointestinal (UGI) surgery included rotations in complex benign UGI surgery, oesophago-gastric cancer, bariatric surgery and hepatopancreatobiliary surgery. He has had extensive training in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic), including Barrett’s oesophagus surveillance.
Mr Patel has a strong academic background as well as an interest in surgical training. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers, presented over 50 international/national conference oral or poster presentations, published book chapters and won numerous prizes throughout his surgical career. He is currently the Royal College of Surgeons Surgical Tutor at the West Suffolk Hospital and regularly examines for Cambridge University. He has previously been Council Member for numerous national surgical associations.
Mr Patel provides consultations for all major insurers, self-paying patients and NHS patients who wish to be seen at St Edmunds Hospital for the management of general surgical and upper gastrointestinal conditions.
