Personal profile

Mr Lachlan Carter is a highly renowned consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon with over 20 years of experience. He has extensive experience in numerous oral and maxillofacial conditions and treatments, and his areas of expertise include oral surgery, wisdom teeth, TMJ and facial pain, facial trauma, Orthognathic Surgery, soft tissue abnormalities of the mouth including vascular malformations and facial deformity surgery.

Mr Carter currently practises privately at the Huddersfield Hospital and the Thorpe Park Clinic in Leeds. He also has years of experience in the NHS and is core member of the craniofacial pain, facial deformity surgery and vascular malformations multi-disciplinary teams in Leeds. Mr Carter is currently the clinical governance lead for oral and maxillofacial surgery at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and has supervised local, regional, and national audits, striving to improve patient care.

He first qualified with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Glasgow in 1993, before going on to receive his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Dundee in 2001. He received his FRCS(OMFS) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2008. He also has a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Research from the University of Leeds. In 2011, he completed a fellowship in craniofacial surgery at Hôpital Necker Enfants Malades in Paris, France.

In addition to his clinical work, Mr Carter is also a highly respected voice in medical education and research. He currently serves as honorary senior lecturer at the University of Leeds. He is the lead for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery trainees’ education programme in Yorkshire and was awarded National Surgical Trainer of the Year in 2019.  He has published over 90 scientific articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals.  He has also authored 8 textbook chapters.  He is a member of the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Medical and Defence Union of Scotland and the British Medical Association.

Mr Carter will see self funding patients without a referral.
