Personal profile

Dr Kass-Iliyya is Consultant Neurologist working at the Manchester Centre for Clinical Neuroscience. He is also a visiting Neurologist at the Royal Bolton Hospital where he provides inpatient Neurology consultations. He runs outpatient clinics at Salford Royal Hospital, Breightmet Health Centre and the Beaumont Hospital.

He was born in Germany and grew up in Syria. He qualified from Medical School at the University of Aleppo in 2004 and did his post-graduate medical training in various hospitals around the UK, completing a Master of Science degree from the University of Edinburgh.

After completing medical training, he pursued his passion for Neurology and spent several years in neuroscience research. He has published multiple peer-reviewed original papers in Neurology and Movement Disorders journals and presented at conferences nationally and internationally.

In 2016, he was awarded a PhD from the University of Manchester for his research on pain mechanisms in Parkinson’s disease. He completed his specialist Neurology training in the busy regional neuroscience centre at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield and was appointed as a Consultant Neurologist at the Manchester Centre for Clinical Neuroscience in 2021.

Dr Kass-Iliyya has a broad experience in diagnosing and managing all neurological presentations including:

  • Tremors
  • Muscle twitching
  • Tingling and numbness
  • Restless legs
  • Peripheral nerve disorders

He has a sub-specialty interest in movement disorders and Parkinson's disease and he is part of the regional MDT for advanced therapies for Parkinson's disease.
